The 10 Days Uganda safari introduces you to the finest savanna and rainforest dominated destinations. The savanna parks to be visited include Murchison Falls National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park and Lake Mburo National Park. The rainforest dominated protected areas to be explored include Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Kibale National Park. In each of these destinations, expect to encounter unusual species and engage in unique experiences.

The long 10-day trip encompasses exciting activities including rhino tracking, guided game drives, launch cruise, chimpanzee tracking, gorilla trekking, cultural experiences, canoeing, lion tracking, and nature walks. Your trip will begin and end in Kampala capital, Central Uganda.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up from Hotel – Transfer to Murchison Falls – Zziwa rhino tracking

Have a hefty breakfast and after, you will be picked up from your respective hotels in Kampala. From Kampala, you will head off to Murchison Falls Park, the biggest National Park in Northwestern Uganda. Expanding up to 3840sq.km, Murchison Falls National Park boasts of 76 mammal species, 451 species of birds and also features the world’s powerful waterfalls –Murchison Falls.

Access to Murchison Falls Park will involve you traveling along Kampala-Gulu highway and en-route, expect to make a stopover at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. At Ziwa, embark on a guided walk with rhinos and you will have a chance to interact with these large mammals in the wild.

After the Ziwa Rhino trek, connect to Masindi for lunch and later, you will be transferred up to the lodge.

Day 2: Morning game drive – Afternoon launch cruise at the bottom of the falls

After having a heavy breakfast, leave your accommodation and today, you will have a chance to explore different animals along the Northern game track. Along this particular part of Murchison Falls Park, expect to encounter myriad of small and big mammals while in your pop up roof safari vehicle. The common animals to see include the Rothschild giraffes, lions, warthogs, antelopes, African elephants, cape buffaloes, and birds.

When the 2-3 hours’ game drive ends, expect to have lunch at your lodge. In the afternoon, report at Paraa jetty for you to get briefed and later, set off for actual launch/boat cruise. The 2-3 hour round boat cruise allows you enjoy clear view of hippos, crocodiles and aquatic bird species.

At the base of the falls, there will be an option of proceeding up to the top of the falls, about 45 minutes trek. Enjoy the spectacular view of the falls, take pictures and later, return to the lodge by car.

Day 3: Transfer to Kibale National Park

A delicious cup of tea or coffee will be enjoyed at the comfort of your lodge and after, expect to embark on a journey up to Kibale National Park. This park is found in Kabarole district in Western Uganda and today, getting there involves driving via Hoima-Fort Portal city route. En-route, do not miss the breathtaking view of the rift valley escarpment and other surrounding features.

At Fort Portal tourism city, you will have a leisurely lunch at the best restaurant. Later, expect to connect to your pre-booked accommodation in or around Kibale National Park.

Day 4: Chimpanzee tracking; Transfer to Queen Elizabeth NP

Your chimpanzee tracking adventure will start from Kanyanchu after you have been briefed about safety guidelines. At Kanyanchu, the park official will also allocate to you the park ranger guide and at around 8:00am, you will begin the trek to see chimpanzees in the wild.

Over 1500 chimpanzees thrive in Kibale Forest and these harmoniously live together with 12 primate species. As you search for chimpanzees, you will also be spotting most of the other primates. An hour will be guaranteed for your up close and personal interaction with chimpanzees upon locating them.

Later on, you will walk back or be picked up from where you were dropped to begin the trek from. Continue to the lodge for relaxation and lunch, then in the afternoon, be ready to be transferred to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Day 5: Lion tracking – launch cruise along the Kazinga channel

At leisure, enjoy a delicious cup of tea/coffee and after, head off for your exciting lion tracking experience. You will spend the better part of your day on a search for lions, exploring their unique behaviors in the wild and taking pictures. Later, drive back and lunch will be provided.

In the afternoon, you will leave the lodge and this time round, expect to have the best of Kazinga channel launch cruise. Variety of aquatic species will be spotted while you ride slowly in the boat. Other mammals including elephants and buffaloes will also be spotted along the river banks. From Kazinga, you will be transferred back to the lodge for relaxation.

Day 6: Transfer to Bwindi National Park

Pick up early morning after you have had breakfast and today, expect to connect up to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. As you drive to the Southwest, you will have an en-route game viewing at Ishasha. Look out for the charming tree climbing lions as they are relaxed at the fig trees. Other numerous mammals and birdlife will also be spotted then you settle for lunch in the wild. From Ishasha, continue to the pre-booked lodge for relaxation.

Day 7: Mountain gorilla trekking – visit Batwa Pygmies

Enjoy breakfast at the lodge and leave when fully prepared for your long search for mountain gorillas. Your journey includes briefing about gorilla trekking regulations, allocation of park ranger guides and gorilla families. At around 8:00am, you will be accompanied by an experienced and armed park ranger guide into the wild in search for a family of mountain gorillas.

When you locate a family of Bwindi gorillas, you will have an hour to spend face-to-face with these apes, observe their behaviors and take pictures. In the afternoon when you have had relaxed moment at the lodge, you will connect to the Batwa community for a cultural experience. This will have you exposed to Batwa cultures, traditions and you will also be entertained by locals.

Day 8: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi for canoeing and island tour

A delicious cup of tea or coffee be served to you at the lodge and after, leave for Lake Bunyonyi. The spectacular Lake Bunyonyi is comprised of 29 islands and is remarkably the deepest lake in Uganda. You will be served lunch at the nearby lodge and in the afternoon, embark on a guided canoeing experience. This involves exploring Lake Bunyonyi, birds and one of its magical islands.

Day 9: Transfer to Lake Mburo – boat ride – night game drive

Get up early and have breakfast. Check out from your respective camps/lodges and after, you will be transferred to Lake Mburo for a boat ride and night game drive. On a boat ride, expect to explore Lake Mburo by road and search for hippos, crocodiles and aquatic life. Later in the evening, set off for a night game drive for you to enjoy nocturnal species.

Day 10: Nature walk in the park / game drive – Transfer to Kampala

After breakfast, you will opt for nature walks through Lake Mburo Park or guided game drive. The nature walk takes you deep into areas not easily accessible by car and a game drive allows you search for big and small mammals, early risers and more. After today’s excursions, check out and transfer back to Kampala. En-route, expect to make a stopover at the Equator crossing and finally, get back to Kampala.
