Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up – Transfer to Akagera national park – evening game drive

Have a delicious cup of tea/coffee and after, you will be transferred to Akagera National Park by road and using a 4×4 safari car. Today’s journey involves traveling to the Eastern Province in Rwanda and this is about 2.5 hours’ drive. Arrive early and check in your respective lodges for relaxation.

In evening, you will embark on a guided game drive with an experienced guide. This park is popular not only for the big 5 game but also other faunal species including the Maasai giraffes, rhinos, elephants, leopards, lions, zebras, warthogs, roan antelopes and more than 500 bird species. Majority of this diverse species will be encountered on your game viewing session and then you will get back to the lodge to have dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Morning game drive – Boat ride on Lake Ihema

After breakfast set off for a sunrise game drive using a 4×4 safari car. With your experienced guide, expect to encounter myriad of wildlife including lions, buffaloes, elephants, rhinos, giraffes, antelopes and bird species.

Once you get done with the morning game drive, return and have lunch. In the afternoon, embark on an unforgettable boat or launch cruise. In Akagera, your boat cruise will be best enjoyed on Lake Ihema where you will have clear view of hippos, crocodiles and water birds.

Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes national park

A delicious cup of tea/coffee be enjoyed at the comfort of your lodge and after, check out. Today, you will be driven back to Kigali then proceed to Volcanoes National Park in the Northern Province. It will be a bit a long day but enriching journey from the different regions’ attractions. On arrival at Volcanoes Park, check in your pre-booked accommodation for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Mountain gorilla trekking – Visit Iby’Iwacu cultural village

Get up early morning to enjoy a hefty breakfast and later, you will report to Kinigi for briefing about gorilla trekking rules and regulations. The park official will also utilize this period to assign to you a gorilla family and Volcanoes National Park has about 12 habituated groups open for gorilla tourism.

You will leave for actual search for gorillas at around 8:00am and expect to spend 2-6 hours in the jungles. On locating a group of these massive apes, you will enjoy a maximum of an hour on a close encounter and photography.

After the magical moment with your favorite apes, begin walking back with the park ranger guide on lead. In the evening when you have had enough time to relax, expect to spend your time interacting with the locals at Iby’Iwacu cultural village.

Day 5: Golden monkey tracking – Transfer to Lake Kivu

Have a hefty breakfast and once again, join other guests for briefing at Kinigi. Today, you will have briefing on golden monkey tracking regulations. After, begin the search for a troop of habituated golden monkeys and this involves navigating through the lush bamboo forest of Volcanoes National Park with the park ranger guide.

An hour will be provided for you to enjoy up close and personal encounter with golden monkeys then you walk back. At your respective lodges, have a delicious lunch and then get on a road trip to Lake Kivu for evening relaxation at its shores.

Day 6: Canoeing and island tour – Transfer to Kigali for drop off

Meet and interact with the coffee growers. After the long Lake Kivu tour, you will be transferred to Kigali capital and today marks the end of 6 days in Rwanda.
